From a Musician’s Need to a Developer’s Milestone
Every software project starts with a problem—or better yet, a need. Chordastic was born from a simple but persistent one: my friend and collaborator George Drakos, a talented musician, wanted a better way to prepare and play his songs. Like many musicians, he needed a clean, flexible tool to write lyrics and chords, organize them for gigs, and print or display them without formatting headaches. Existing tools were either too clunky, too complex, or not designed with users in mind.
So, we decided to build our own.
What Is Chordastic?
Chordastic is a lyrics and chords editor built specifically for musicians. It allows users to:
- Write and edit songs with chords aligned over lyrics
- Customize fonts, colors, and layout for printing or digital display
- Create and manage setlists for performances
- Export songs to PDF, or print directly from the app
- Work offline, with no cloud dependencies or subscriptions
- Enjoy a clean, distraction-free interface focused on one thing: music
It’s lightweight, fast, and designed to stay out of your way—so you can focus on your craft.
You can explore all features and download it at chordastic.com.
A Personal Milestone
For me, Chordastic isn’t just another app—it’s the first big project I completed end-to-end. I had the chance to dive into every layer of development and distribution, including:
- Graphics & UI Design: Creating an interface musicians actually enjoy using
- Coding: From text layout engines to export tools and settings panels
- Setup & Installation: Making it easy to install and update on Windows
- Marketing & Web Presence: Building our website, writing content, and designing visuals
- User Support: Helping users via email and updating features based on feedback
It’s one thing to write code. It’s another to build something real that solves someone’s everyday problem—especially when that someone is your friend.
Why It Matters
There are dozens of tools out there for writing lyrics and chords—but most feel like they were made for someone else. George and I built Chordastic for musicians like him: people who want to prepare their songs quickly, stay organized, and perform confidently.
If you’re a musician—or know one—who struggles with messy printouts, badly formatted lyrics, or overcomplicated software, give Chordastic a try. It's free to download and easy to use. And if you’ve got ideas for new features, we’d love to hear from you.
